An F&I report you can check against the paper one.

Finance is measured on numbers that get rebuilt by hand every month. DealerCockpit computes them from the deals that were punched, shows the formula, and uses the same math for the report and the pay plan.

How the month runs now

  • Pay is figured on a side sheet.

Product gross, reserve, tier percentages and chargebacks are typed into a workbook, and the plan changes sometimes.

  • The rotation is argued from memory.

Who is up next, who took the last cash deal and who was out that day are settled by whoever remembers.

  • A penetration number that is wrong on paper.

A product that cannot be sold on a lease still counts every lease in its denominator, so the rate reads low.

  • Punching means typing twice.

Products are entered once in the DMS and again in a report, and a deal can be delivered and never punched.

Asked for, then built

Said in walkthroughs at Mohawk Chevrolet, where DealerCockpit was built. Each person is named by role.

  1. The F&I director

“It's fifty out of sixty-five, not fifty out of seventy-five. We don't count the VSC leases.”

Shipped: Penetration is measured against the deals a product can actually be sold on, and the pay plan reads that number.

  2. The F&I director

“The whole point is to stay close in numbers.”

Shipped: The rotation is built to keep everyone's counts close.

What finance gets

  • The F&I report

Deals, product gross, reserve, per-deal averages and penetration by product, with the manager roster and a deal-by-deal drill-down. Staff see their own deals and the store total, not each other's.

  • A pay plan kept as data

The pay plan is data, not a spreadsheet, and a past month is figured under the plan that was live then.

  • Chargebacks entered once

A chargeback typed for a manager flows into the pay calculation and into the recap, so the same figure is not entered twice.

  • A finance order that stays fair

Retail deals rotate through the managers fairly, and the schedule keeps people who have left for the day out of it.

  • Punch and deliver in one step

Punching a deal records the products and delivers it, so the report and the deal log agree.

  • In-house deals on their own line

Deals the store finances itself are shown on their own line.
